I have read your articals regarding internet selling.
In my opinion the internet (out of area) selling of products such as RVs
has the potential to bring down the industry. While the internet dealers
argue their point, I never hear any solution, from them to the service issue.
Any and all dealers could simply go on the internet and sell at low ball prices,
if they do not have to maintain a service department capable of handling the
service for the online sales. We could all sell in other markets inorder to prevent
units coming back for service. The manufacturers would love this in the short run
with the reduction of claims. In the long run the customer will get frustrated, and will
walk away from the RV industry, due to the lack of service.
We will not do any service for the customers, of the lowball artists.
This industry is not one that does not require service, and as such it will colapse
if the dealers who sell and service within their own territories cease to exist.
One very interesting comment was from a dealer in Arizona, who can not stay afloat
selling within their own territory. Territory is exactly what was and is set up between the dealers
and the manufacturers. If the territory thru sales and SERVICE can not support the dealer,
the dealer should not stay in business.
The manufacturers had all better wake up to this problem very quickly.
If they don't unfortunatly we will all have to join the internet.
We will all sell to customers who are too far away for us to worry about any service.
We can all then start counting the days till the RV industry is in a dire state.
One side note: I had a freind go into a dealership who lowballs to internet customers.
I had an internet price on a unit. My freind who was local could not buy the unit for the same low price, in person.
I guess maybe the dealer needed to make more money when they knew the unit could come back for service.
