(Oct. 10, 2008) -- "We have been telling our clients for quite some time that this was going to be a hurricane type problem. The first wave would hit (high fuel prices with an economy slow down), the eye would come ashore (everyone getting use to the prices and slowdown with money belts loosening), then the backside of the storm would hit which would be the most devastating (the markets and banks taking a dive making money tight)."

(Oct. 10, 2008) -- Canadian employment soared 107,000 in September, which was well above an expected rise of 10,000. The Canadian merchandise trade surplus came in stronger than expected in August, rising to $5.8 billion, although the surplus in July was revised down to $4.2 billion. Expectations for August had been for a much smaller surplus of $4.4 billion.

(Oct. 10, 2008) -- Oil prices have fallen about 44 percent to $82.24 since soaring to a record $147.27 on July 11. "We haven't seen the bottom of this yet," one analyst said. "We thought $75 would be a floor but if the market mood doesn't change, $50 to $60 a barrel is not out of the question."

(Oct. 10, 2008) -- The Paxinos manufacturing facility, which builds Class A gas and Class C products, will cease operations effective early December 2008. The full line of products currently built in Paxinos will be transferred to the Decatur manufacturing complex, which currently builds Class A diesel products, during the fiscal third quarter.

(Oct. 10, 2008) -- David McMahon says the teetering economy was in part to blame. "Dealers across the country aren't doing well. RVs in New York State were up 30 percent, we were doing very well. We could just not pay for this load, its way to big for the market right now and by consolidating it other people in New York State will have their jobs."

But what caught the eye of a Fremont County deputy were two little stickers on the license plate. Sheriff's Deputy Jonathan Manalo pulled the rented RV over because the month and year stickers were reversed.

(Oct. 10, 2008) -- PKF Consulting, an international consulting firm with expertise in travel and tourism, found that “typical RV family vacations are on average 27 to 61 percent less expensive than other types of vacations studied.” Even factoring in RV ownership and fuel costs, the study reveals that RV family vacations tend to be significantly less expensive than other types of vacations.

(Oct. 9, 2008) -- Ending months of speculation, Dan Gamel Inc. has decided not to close its Anderson RV dealership, company spokeswoman Joyce Dillingham said today. On June 27, Gamel announced it would begin liquidating inventory at its dealerships and would close the stores once the stock was sold off. That same day the RV dealer advertised a going-out-of business sale for its Anderson location.

(Oct. 9, 2008) -- As the owner of the Santa Fe Mobile Home and RV Park evicts most of the beleaguered park’s residents, several tenants have filed lawsuits. Six tenants, both former and current, claim that owner Erika Shapiro and former owner Eugene Naccarato, provided uninhabitable living conditions at the park and are seeking damages in small claims court ranging from $1,500 to $7,500. Shapiro has since evicted most of the tenants and is in the process of evicting others claiming they have not paid rent. The tenants claim the evictions are illegal.

(Oct. 9, 2008) -- Oklahoma dealers blamed this year's drop in RV sales on soaring gasoline prices and recent national economic worries keyed to recent drops in the stock market and failing financial firms. Dealers also are already feeling a pinch from tighter lending standards driven by those other factors, Eaton said. “It’s getting more and more difficult to get even good customers financed as far as lenders are concerned, especially the nationwide lenders,” he said.

(Oct. 9, 2008) -- For more than 15 years, Jim and Doris Garling owned the RV General Store, an RV dealership in Norman. But for about four years, Garling was driving from Norman to Guthrie once a week to teach fiddle and guitar lessons at the Double Stop Fiddle Shop. The Garlings thought, what if instead of driving to Guthrie, we move there? About five years ago they did.

(Oct. 9, 2008) -- More came by air. Fewer by car or RV. And at the end of Alaska's tourist season it looks like the state hosted about 1.7 million visitors this year, roughly the same number as last year.
