SPOUT SPRINGS, N.C. -- The Harnett County Sheriff's Office is investigating the cause of a fire that destroyed several travel trailers and boats at a self-storage lot in Spout Springs.
Seven travel trailers and two boats were on fire at Stockade Self Storage on N.C. 87 when firefighters with Spout Springs arrived on the scene just before 3 a.m. Monday.
Firefighters broke through a locked fence to get to the burning property. It took them an hour to get the large blaze under control. All of the trailers and the boats were destroyed, along with several vehicles.
Spout Springs Deputy Chief Eric Southerland said firefighters were at the scene until Monday afternoon documenting the event.
"It was a mess and it took a while to clean it all up and get everything documented," Deputy Chief Southerland said.
