GOSHEN, Ind. -- Keystone RV in Goshen is laying off over 250 employees, which adds up to about 9 percent of their work force, a South Bend television station reported this morning.
WNDU-TV reported on its Web site that the company said the layoffs will be spread throughout 15 different Keystone plants and that the company will still maintain around 2,600 employees.
CEO Ron Fenech says 290 workers were laid off Thursday morning, effective immediately. Fenech says the uncertainty of the market is the problem amid the struggling economy and high gas prices.
He says it's not uncommon for RV companies to lay off workers heading into the fall when the summer camping season ends, but adds Keystone has never done this before.
