SARASOTA, Fla. -- On June 28, Jill Whittmore set out on a 1,350-mile journey in a 34-foot RV stuffed with clothing, household items and paper goods.
Whittmore purchased the used RV to serve as a temporary home for her parents and decided to use the extra space on the trip to Cedar Rapids.
"Cedar Rapids is my hometown," she said. "It's where I was raised. I decided that I needed to help my hometown as well as my family."
Individuals throughout Sarasota helped her fill the RV with supplies.
After seeing a story on about Whittmore's donation drive, Rotary member Lee-En Chung asked the members of the Rotary Club of Sarasota to help by donating supplies.
Whittmore was able to fill the RV with large trash bags full of donations.
When she arrived in Cedar Rapids, Whittmore unloaded the supplies packed into the RV at the Community of Christ Church.
"The church had a weeklong event where anyone in Cedar Rapids could come and pick out what they needed," said Whittmore.
